Core indicators of polymeric ferric sulfate
As the core flocculant in the field of Water Treatment, the quality index of polyferric sulfate (PFS) is mainly formulated according to the national standard GB 14591-2016. According to the search results, the core index can be divided into the following four categories:
🔬 I. Chemical characteristic index
Total iron content (in Fe)
Liquid products: greater than or equal to 11.0%; solid products: greater than or equal to 19.0%.
Iron content directly affects flocculation efficiency, and low iron content will lead to decreased coagulation effect.
Iron ion (Fe²⁺) content
Liquid: less than 0.10%; solid: less than 0.20%.
If Fe²⁺ is too high, the product will be oxidized and deteriorated, which will affect its stability.
Salinity
Standard range: 8.0%~16.0%.
The salinity reflects the degree of polymerization and affects the comPactness and settling speed of flocs. Too high or too low will reduce the flocculation efficiency.
⚖ II. Physical characteristic index
Density (20℃)
Liquid products: greater than or equal to 1.45 g/cm³.
The higher the density, the better the degree of polymerization and the better the quality.
PH Value (1% aqueous solution)
Range: 1.5~3.0.
PH The range of applicable water bodies is affected, and the acid may corrode the equipment.
Color and solubility
Optimal characteristics: the aqueous solution is golden yellow or reddish brown, transparent and no precipitate.
Green or turbid indicates more impurities.
🧪 III. Purity and impurity control
Heavy metals are limited
Arsenic (As): liquid less than 0.0005%, solid less than 0.001%;
Lead (Pb): liquid less than 0.0010%, solid less than 0.002%.
Heavy metals exceed the standard and endanger the safety of drinking water, so strict detection is needed (commonly atomic absorption spectrometry).
Insoluble matter content
Liquid: less than 0.3%; solid: less than 0.6%.
Too much insoluble matter will block the pipe and reduce its effectiveness.
Water content
Too high will lead to crystal dissolution, shorten the product life.
🚰 Application performance indicators
pH subject range
Effective effect pH 4~11, the best is 6~9.
The wider the range, the wider the water quality suitable for use.
Microscopic morphology and specific surface area
Uniform microstructure can improve the adsorption capacity and sedimentation efficiency.
The crystal form is best in polyhedron (such as polyhedron crystal form).
Settlement velocity and alum density
The high quality PFS produces dense and fast settling alum, which significantly shortens the treatment time.
💎 Summary and recommendations
| Indicator type | Core parameters | quality requirement |
| chemical characteristic | Total iron content, salinity, Fe²⁺ | Liquid Fe≥11%, salinity 8-16% |
| physical characteristics | Density, pH value, color | Density greater than or equal to 1.45 g/cm³, golden yellow solution |
| impurity control | Heavy metals, insoluble substances | As is less than 0.0005%, insoluble matter is less than 0.3% |
| application performance | PH Adaptability and settling speed | PH 4-11, the alum flower is dense |
In practical application, the dosage should be adjusted according to the water quality. Excessive use may lead to color return or residual iron ions in the water. For more detailed data, please refer to the product manual or supplier quality inspection report.
